Community Designed. Artist Led.

Run by local artists Joy, Odessa, and Sarah, the Art & Soul Craft Café brought seniors together at Spencer House to explore the art of needle felting, many for the very first time.

Through a collaborative brainstorming session, the group designed the entire project themselves. They decided on the theme "Under the Sea". 🌊

After creating the colourful backdrop each participant created their own felted sea creature, symbolizing how individual creativity can come together to form something truly beautiful.

What started as a new challenge quickly became a passion. One member shared that they “first felt a bit stressed to learn a new skill since they were never a crafter, but now they’re hooked!”

We even had a special visit from Monica from the Mental Health Foundation of NS who joined us to experience the Art & Soul program firsthand. It was a wonderful afternoon of sharing stories, laughter, and our newfound love of felting.

Over seven weeks, the group’s consistent participation and growing skills transformed into an impressive community artwork that will soon find its permanent home at Spencer House.

Thank you to Joy, Odessa, and Sarah and to all of the members who joined in this project. Thank you to New Horizons for Seniors for supporting this project.

Stay tuned for future art projects at Spencer House. We hope you will join us next time!
