It’s never too late to start exercising, and it’s always more enjoyable with friends! Here at Spencer House we have two fitness programs each week that are free, accessible, and beginner friendly. We are always happy to welcome new participants, come join us!

Our “Chair Dancing” program is held every Wednesday Morning and is led by Maria. Chair Dancing is a fun, lighthearted program where the movement follows the music. Seated in your chair, you will follow Maria’s dancing mixed in with more traditional workout techniques, sometimes using weights. You will be sure to hear upbeat-feel-good music every time.

Our new fitness program “Strength and Balance” is held every Thursday morning (10:30) and is led by Tess. Strength and Balance is designed to train your brain and body together to build strength and help prevent falls. You are encouraged to sing along to classic catchy songs or say tongue twisters while practicing exercises that support balance and coordination between thinking and movement. This program is both seated and standing (if able), and we end with a short meditation!

It has become apart of many people’s weekly routine to visit Spencer House for the fitness classes and stay around for lunch and afternoon programs. “I started coming to Spencer House because of the exercise classes. I look forward to them and miss it when I don’t make it to a class. The people, the place, and the exercise make me feel better.” – Spencer House Member.

These programs are also a wonderful way to connect with others in the Spencer House community, turning exercise into a shared and motivated experience!

Thank you to New Horizons for Seniors and The Medavie Foundation for supporting our exercise programs.
